Everything Orb does.
Every feature on this page is in the version you can download today.
Spaces and the sidebar.
Tabs live down the side of the window, grouped into Spaces you can move between with a swipe.
Spaces
Give each Space a name, an icon, a color and its own theme. Swipe sideways on the sidebar to switch, press ⌃ 1 to 9, or use ⌥ ⌘ ← and →.
Separate by default
A new Space keeps its own history, cookies and sign-ins. If you’d rather share them, link the new Space to a profile you already have.
Favorites and pinned tabs
Favorites sit at the top of the sidebar as tiles. Pinned tabs belong to their Space and keep their place, and Reset Tab takes one back to the address you pinned.
Today and the Archive
New tabs land in Today. The ones you haven’t opened for 12 hours move to the Archive, or after 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or never. Undo brings back the whole batch.
Folders
Group pinned tabs into folders, and collapse or expand every folder at once.
Your layout
Keep the sidebar on the left or the right, or use a top bar. Hide it with ⌘ S, make rows compact, and choose how strongly the selected tab takes its Space’s color.
Light, dark and your own icon
Follow the system or pick light or dark, edit any Space’s theme, and choose a different Orb icon for your Dock.
The command bar.
⌘ T opens it for a new tab. ⌘ L opens it on the page you’re on.
Search or go
Type an address or a search. Results come from your open tabs, your history and the Archive as well as the web.
Jump anywhere
Open tabs show which Space they’re in. Press ↩ to switch to one, or ⌥ ↩ to open it in a split beside the page you’re on.
Every command, by name
Type what you want to do, such as “split” or “pin”, and press Return to run it.
Answers as you type
Sums and unit conversions, like 12 × 7.5 or 5 km in mi, are answered right in the bar. Press ↩ to copy the result.
Your search engine
DuckDuckGo by default, or Kagi, Startpage, Brave, Ecosia, Qwant, Google or Bing. Search suggestions stay off unless you turn them on.
Split View.
Up to five tabs in one window, each in its own pane.
Four layouts
Columns, rows, one large and two small, or a grid. ⌃ ⌥ ⇧ L moves to the next layout.
Drag to arrange
Drag a tab from the sidebar onto the page to split it. Drag a pane by the handle at its top to swap it with another, and one undo puts them back.
From the keyboard
⌃ ⇧ = adds a split, ⌃ ⇧ 1 to 5 moves between panes, and ⌃ ⇧ ↩ expands the pane you’re in until you press it again.
Saved like any tab
A split stays in the sidebar as one row, and Separate Split View breaks it back into tabs.
Glimpse and Orbit.
Two ways to open a link without losing your place.
Glimpse
Shift-click any link to open it in a card over the page. Links from your pinned tabs to other sites open there too, which you can turn off in Settings.
Keep it or close it
esc or ⌘ W closes a Glimpse. ⌘ O keeps it as a tab, and the split button puts it beside the page.
Orbit
A small window for quick trips. Links from other apps open in Orbit, and so do links you ⌘ ⌥-click. ⌥ ⌘ N opens an empty one.
Bring it in
⌘ O moves an Orbit window into your sidebar. ⇧ ⌘ O lets you choose which Space it joins.
Link routes
Send a site’s links to a particular Space, or to Orbit, with rules in Settings. Links from other apps and links you ⌘-click go to the first rule that matches.
Tweaks.
Change how any site looks, just for you, and keep it that way.
Colors
Shift the hue, raise or drain the saturation, invert light and dark, and choose whether images are tinted too.
Type
Swap a site’s font for one of yours, such as Charter, New York, Iowan Old Style or Menlo, and set the text size from 90 to 150 percent.
Zap
Click the parts of a page you never want to see and they’re gone on every visit. Each zap can be undone.
Your own CSS and JavaScript
Write CSS, or JavaScript that runs when the page starts or once it’s ready. JavaScript from another Mac or a shared Tweak stays off until you turn it on.
Share with a link
A Tweak fits in a link. It travels in the part after the #, which browsers don’t send to a server, and opening it in Orb shows exactly what it changes.
The gallery
Browse Tweaks other people published, or publish your own. The whole list downloads at once and search runs on your Mac, so we don’t learn what you searched for.
Sync.
The same Spaces on every Mac, end-to-end encrypted, with no account.
What syncs
Spaces, tabs, pinned tabs, favorites, folders, splits, the Archive, link routes, Tweaks and appearance, plus passwords and passkeys if you choose.
What stays on each Mac
Windows, history, cookies, extensions, privacy choices and private windows.
Adding a Mac
One Mac shows a six-digit code and the other enters it. Both show the same check words before anything is shared.
Your recovery key
24 words that can bring your synced data back if you lose every Mac. We never receive them.
How the encryption works, and what the server can and can’t see, is on the privacy page.
Passwords and passkeys.
Sign in with passkeys and saved passwords.
Passkeys in Orb
When a site offers a passkey, save it in Orb on your Mac and sign in with it next time, no password needed.
Your phone or a security key
Sign in with a passkey on your phone or tablet by scanning a code, or with a USB security key and its PIN.
Passwords
Orb offers to save passwords and can sign you in automatically. Import and export them as a CSV file.
Locked until you need them
Viewing saved passwords asks for Touch ID or your Mac’s password. A deleted passkey stays in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
Import.
Orb finds the browsers on your Mac during setup, and you can import again later from Settings.
Arc
Spaces, tabs and favorites, then passwords and history.
Chrome, Brave, Edge and Vivaldi
Bookmarks, then passwords and history.
Firefox
Bookmarks, then passwords and history.
Safari
Bookmarks, then history. macOS asks you to turn on Full Disk Access for Orb first.
Library, capture and downloads.
Everything you’ve opened, saved or captured, in one window.
Library
⇧ ⌘ L opens your Spaces, the Archive, downloads, history and media, each searchable.
History
⌘ Y shows where you’ve been. Delete one page, everything from one site, or the last hour, today or all of it.
Capture
⇧ ⌘ 2 and drag to capture part of a page, or capture the whole page from top to bottom. The image is copied, ready to paste or save.
Downloads
Choose a download folder or be asked every time. Files that look dangerous are held until you decide.
Tabs and media.
Small things that keep a full sidebar fast and quiet.
Memory Saver
Tabs you haven’t looked at for a while sleep and wake when you come back. Tabs playing audio, sharing your screen or in Picture in Picture stay awake. Choose how eager it is, or turn it off.
Mini player
Leave a tab that’s playing and a small player appears at the bottom of the sidebar, with play, mute and Picture in Picture.
Private windows
⇧ ⌘ N opens a window that doesn’t keep history, cookies or site data after you close it, with its own fingerprint and stricter WebRTC settings.
Undo for tabs
⇧ ⌘ T brings back the last closed tab, and ⌃ ⇥ flips between your most recent tabs.
Under the hood.
A native Mac app around the engine most of the web is tested on.
Native interface
The sidebar, command bar, settings and dialogs are Orb’s own, written in Swift for macOS. Orb runs on Macs with Apple silicon.
Chromium, kept current
Pages render with Chromium 156 on Google’s Extended channel, with patches from ungoogled-chromium that take out Google’s built-in background connections. Orb ships Chromium’s security fixes in regular updates.
Extensions
Install extensions from the Chrome Web Store, and reach them from the toolbar with ⌘ E.
For developers
Chromium’s developer tools are a keystroke away with ⌥ ⌘ I, and Orb has a task manager for every page and process.
What Orb blocks, sends and keeps is on the privacy and security page.
