Orb End User License Agreement
Effective November 2, 2026
This agreement is between you and Dennis Yilmaz, an individual ("we"), who publishes the Orb browser for Mac ("Orb"). Installing or using Orb means you agree to it. If you don't agree, don't install or use Orb.
Orb is free. Some of Orb is ours, and much of it is open-source software that belongs to other people. Section 5 explains how the two fit together and takes priority over everything else here.
1. Your licence
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and run Orb on Macs you own or control, for personal use or for your work. We keep all rights we don't give you here. We own the parts of Orb we wrote. We don't own the open-source components, and nothing here claims that we do.
2. Early software
Orb is new and still changing. Features can break, change or disappear, and data can be lost. Keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose.
3. Automatic updates
Orb checks for updates and installs them automatically, including security fixes. This can't be turned off while you use Orb, because an out-of-date browser puts you at risk. Some updates add, change or remove features. If you don't want an update, stop using Orb and uninstall it.
Orb also keeps some security data current between releases, as the Privacy Policy describes.
4. What you may not do
Subject to section 5, you may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Orb.
- Tamper with Orb, including altering or removing its code signature, its update mechanism or the keys that verify updates, or bypassing its security checks.
- Pass off a modified copy as the genuine Orb, or give one to anyone else as Orb.
- Sell, rent, lend, sublicense or redistribute Orb. Send people to our download page instead.
- Remove or hide copyright, licence or attribution notices.
- Use Orb to break the law, or to attack, overload or get unauthorised access to anyone's systems.
- Use the name Orb or its logo in a way that suggests we made or endorsed something we didn't.
5. Open-source components and rights you keep
This section overrides section 4 and every other part of this agreement.
5.1 Open-source licences come first. Orb contains software under open-source licences, listed in the Third-Party Notices and on the Acknowledgements page in About Orb. Each component's licence gives you rights in that component. This agreement doesn't limit those rights. If this agreement and such a licence conflict for that component, the licence wins.
5.2 FFmpeg and WebKit. Orb's engine, the Orb Framework, includes FFmpeg and WebKit-derived code under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 or later. They are compiled into a single binary with the rest of the engine. We don't own them; their authors do, and FFmpeg's are listed at https://ffmpeg.org/. For the Orb Framework you may:
- modify it for your own use, and
- reverse engineer it as far as you need to debug those modifications.
You may also re-sign your modified copy so that it runs on your Mac. Sections 4.1 and 4.2 don't stop you doing any of this. We don't support modified copies, and they may stop receiving updates.
5.3 Rights the law gives you. Nothing here removes a right you have under law that a contract can't take away. If you are in the European Union, that includes observing and studying how Orb works, making a backup copy, and decompiling it where necessary to make another program work with it, within the limits of Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC. In the United States it includes the activities permitted by 17 U.S.C. ยง 1201(f).
5.4 Security research. Good-faith security research done under Orb's Security Policy doesn't breach this agreement.
6. Other people's content and services
Orb takes you to websites and services we don't run, and it can install extensions, Tweaks and other content we didn't make. That includes search engines, DNS providers, the Chrome Web Store and sites you visit. They have their own terms and privacy practices, and we aren't responsible for them.
Orb automatically downloads Google's Widevine Content Decryption Module, without asking, so that protected video can play. It is Google's software under Google's terms, and we give you no rights in it.
Orb Sync, the Tweaks Gallery and Orb's other online services are covered by the Orb Services Terms.
7. Privacy
The Orb Privacy Policy explains what Orb sends and what is kept.
8. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, Orb is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.
We don't promise that Orb will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, that it will block every ad, tracker or threat, or that any website, video format or extension will work in it. Blocker lists and malicious-site warnings can miss things and can flag safe sites.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill or business, even if we were told they were possible.
- Our total liability for all claims about Orb is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Orb, which is normally nothing, and US$100.
10. Consumer rights
Some places don't allow the exclusions in sections 8 and 9. If you are a consumer, you keep every right that your local law doesn't let a contract remove. Nothing in this agreement excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be excluded.
11. Export and sanctions
Orb contains encryption and is subject to United States export laws. You may not use or export Orb in breach of those laws, or if you are barred from receiving it under United States sanctions.
12. Ending this agreement
You can end this agreement at any time by uninstalling Orb. We can end it if you break it. When it ends, stop using Orb and delete it. Sections 5, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14 continue, and your rights under open-source licences aren't affected.
13. Changes
We may change this agreement. We'll post the new version with its effective date, and for a change that materially affects you we'll say so in Orb or on our website first. If you keep using Orb after a change takes effect, the new version applies. If you don't agree, stop using Orb.
14. General
Governing law: The laws of the State of Florida, United States, govern this agreement, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This doesn't take away any mandatory consumer protection or forum you have where you live.
If a court finds part of this agreement unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we don't enforce something, that isn't a waiver. You can't transfer this agreement. We can transfer it to someone who takes over Orb. This agreement, with the documents it names, is the whole agreement between us about Orb.
